Around the world, immigrant women often struggle to start businesses and become entrepreneurs due to challenges like lack of resources and limited support networks. Providing them with the right tools and knowledge helps them overcome these obstacles, empowering them to pursue their goals and build a better future.
At InterMediaKT we organized a two-day local training session as part of the Relight project, where we hosted 11 immigrant women, who are living in Patras.

Training was focusing on entrepreneurship, self-leadership, and the creation of supportive Women’s community. This initiative aims to bridge knowledge gaps and equip participants with practical tools to start their own ventures while fostering a supportive community.
Main Objectives of the Training
The training was designed to address several key learning gaps and provide participants with the skills needed to pursue entrepreneurship confidently:
- Recognizing Entrepreneurial Potential: Many participants had not considered their skills as potential income-generating opportunities. The training helped them identify and define key concepts such as entrepreneurship.
- Building Confidence in Goal Setting: Participants were taught to set actionable, realistic goals and to approach challenges with resilience, helping them build self-leadership skills.
- Leveraging Cultural and Social Strengths: The training emphasized viewing cultural and social differences as strengths rather than obstacles, encouraging participants to integrate their unique perspectives into their business ideas.
- Fostering a Supportive Network: It created a space for ongoing peer support, mentorship, and collaboration, aimed at reducing isolation and enhancing community ties.
- Promoting Intersectional Awareness: Participants explored how intersectional factors influence entrepreneurial decision-making and self-leadership, identifying both barriers and opportunities for immigrant women.
Main Outcomes
The outcome of this training was that participants developed a solid foundation for turning their ideas into successful businesses. They engaged with the Business Model Canvas to explore value creation, customer needs, and effective delivery methods. Through interactive activities, participants gained practical insights into how their ideas could generate financial, social, and cultural value. In addition, they worked on self-leadership, focusing on resilience, goal setting, and adaptability, which equipped them with strategies to navigate challenges confidently and build long-term success.
Additionally, Participants were introduced to the concept of Women’s Circles, an initiative designed to create a supportive space for women to share experiences and build networks. During the training, they created vision boards to visualize their entrepreneurial goals and engaged in meaningful discussions about their common struggles. These conversations helped foster a strong sense of community and mutual understanding, laying the groundwork for future collaboration and support within the Women’s Circles.
The Relight project continues to empower women by providing them with the skills and support needed to succeed, both personally and professionally. By addressing learning gaps and fostering a sense of community, the project aims to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for immigrant women in Patras and around Europe.
