ESC volunteering team in Patras in May
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European Union initiative designed to foster solidarity across Europe through volunteering and community projects. The program framework of the ESC emphasizes promoting social inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities by engaging young people aged 18 to 30 in various activities that address societal challenges. One of the main pillars of this framework is volunteer teams, where groups of young people from different countries come together to work on community projects for a period of two weeks to two months. These teams collaborate on initiatives that support local communities, such as environmental conservation, social services, and cultural activities, providing participants with valuable experiences and skills while contributing to the common good. Through these structured, collaborative efforts, the ESC aims to strengthen European unity and build a sense of shared identity and purpose among young Europeans.
At the InterMediaKT, we successfully implemented a three-week volunteering project and hosted ten extraordinary youths from Georgia, France, Italy, Spain, and our local community. These dynamic volunteers participated in an insightful presentation on podcast recording, empowering them to contribute to our “Keep Dreaming” project by creating a series of podcasts focused on mental health. They explored the growing importance of mental health awareness and the challenges associated with seeking help. Volunteers also discussed sports, meditation, art, music, and their respective effects on mental well-being. This initiative provided the volunteers with hands-on experience in content creation while raising awareness about important mental health issues.
Beyond podcasting, the volunteers organized a variety of engaging and meaningful activities that enriched both their experiences and our community’s cultural and social landscape. A Language Café celebrated linguistic and cultural diversity by featuring languages such as Italian, French, German, Tunisian, Greek, and Spanish. Participants engaged in lively conversations, language exchange sessions, and cultural presentations that highlighted the unique customs, traditions, and histories associated with each language. The event fostered an inclusive atmosphere where attendees could practice new languages, share their cultural backgrounds, and develop a deeper appreciation for global diversity. This experience not only increased language skills but also built bridges between different communities, promoting mutual respect and understanding. An art workshop explored the theme of happiness, and role-playing games were conducted to build empathy and understanding among the participants.
Additionally, Eco Day was planned and organized. There was a Discussion about the state of the planet and the environmental situation in the world and then a Collective eco-walk with garbage and waste collection in the city of Patras. The event raised awareness of sustainability and demonstrated the power of community action. Their efforts left a lasting positive impact on the community and the environment.
Together, thanks to our amazing volunteers, we are creating a community where dreams grow, voices are heard, and cultures are celebrated. Keep dreaming and inspiring!
