RiskSafe baseline report summary
The RISKSAFE project, an Erasmus+ initiative, focuses on empowering older adults by promoting affordable, age-friendly, and eco-friendly solutions to improve safety and well-being in their living environments. This study was conducted across Sweden, Italy, Greece, and Finland and aims to raise awareness about risk assessment and management in the community care of older adults.

Key findings from interviews and focus groups with older adults, caregivers (both formal and informal), and experts highlighted several common risk factors. Physical health concerns, such as chronic diseases, domestic risks (e.g., falls), mental health issues (e.g., isolation and loneliness), and digital risks (e.g., scams) were among the major concerns.
Older adults emphasized the importance of maintaining autonomy, staying socially active, and receiving proper guidance on risk management to improve their quality of life.

Caregivers also recognized the need for structured risk prevention methods to enhance the safety and autonomy of older adults. They expressed the need for professional training in risk management, particularly in the use of new technologies like health monitoring devices and digital safety tools. Both older adults and caregivers showed strong support for community-based initiatives, collaborative care models, and personalized risk management plans.
In conclusion, the study underlines the importance of promoting a comprehensive risk prevention and management framework that considers the physical, social, and emotional needs of older adults. It also stresses the need for accessible training and technological support to ensure older adults can live safely and independently in their homes.
