COM project - The impact of social media on young people
In today’s world, it’s well-known that social media has become an integral part of our daily lives. People all around the world are using social media platforms more and more, and it’s especially popular among younger generations. Interestingly, statistics show that social media’s impact is growing day by day, with the average person spending 1.72 hours per day on social networks. The impact of social media on young people is particularly important to consider.
While it can be a great way to stay connected with friends and family and express ourselves, it’s also important to recognize the potential dangers that come with it. Social media platforms can become a place for cyberbullying and online harassment. Young people are particularly vulnerable to these harmful behaviors, which can have severe consequences on their self-esteem and emotional well-being. Young people may not always be fully aware of the privacy risks associated with sharing personal information on social media.
Young people’s relationship with social networks was one of the main topics for the COM project. A group of young people came together to discuss the pros and cons of social media and how it affects their generation. They talked about everything from catfishing and grooming to ghosting and flaming, and they were able to share their personal experiences and perspectives. They promoted the importance of building supportive and positive communities online that foster kindness, empathy, and understanding. This project was a great way for them to explore their relationship with social networks and become more actively engaged in conversation.
